Please direct me to the upgrade site

I would like to perform an upgrade for the 2.4.2 and not a full install. When I go to the Souceforge site, which link is provided on XOOPS from the announcement of the new version, there is no upgrade download. Please assist.

Seems like the WF series of mods are not ready for 2.3.x.

I've went with the currently supported, Olédrion eComm module by Instant Zero. I removed Zen months ago. Olédrion has an attractive layout and currently has the one PayPal gateway.

I've just installed it and I am really happy.


Considerations:

A - Supports XOOPS 2.3x

B - When you want to continue to shop after you leave the shopping cart, the shopper has no way to go back to the shopping cart directly. Currently the shopper must select another item in order to return back to the cart.

C - Needs a "buy" button - The cart image icon duplicates as the shopping cart and for the buy functions. That can be confusing.

Hi JDLamb,

I think that a blog script could double as a news mod if you could remove the other functions, however, a news/article mod could not suffice as a blog. Do you agree with this statement?

This is why I think that WP can be used for both, as blog and for news.

Where did you get the latest xPress from? I have xPress v 2.0.11. The WP admin is so well done this is why I am insisting on using WP or xPress for websites. Unlike Xoops, WordPress site is extremely organized, everything just fits together and makes. I find this very unusual for an open source project.

If I can just get the side panel hidden and get the template tweaked a bit, I will be happy to have both XOOPS and WP co-exist.


Wish list:

Be able to utilize WP templates for xPress

I will be searching for someone who can possibly do this.

If you consider a CMS a platform which manages data or text. XOOPS by itself can not manage articles or the written word, whereas WordPress can.

Xoops is a framework for which modules sit upon. One module type is a CMS. To to category Xoops, it is placed as a CMS. XOOPS by itself, as a framework, does not manage content. It was designed to be plyable and not be relegated to the task of managing content. XOOPS is dependant on the modules. I would say that XOOPS is more like a membership framework than a CMS.

Many of the news and article mod final layout are dull compared to WP. Possibly the XOOPS theme engine is largly to blame. Which makes WP a viable option over XOOPS and with the many ongoing WP addons, it is very attractive. WordPress has professional and creative layout options for the none coder.

A good CMS mod has always been the weak point of Xoops.

I would suggest being carelfull not to use htaccess if you are planning to serve site content efficiently. Use PHP instead.

The downside to the .htaccess method is that the .htaccess file must be parsed by the server for statements on every request, including image requests and anything else. If you would not otherwise have a .htaccess file, the PHP method is less overhead.
