I'm really stuck with this one. I've installed 2.0.15 without any problems but after logging in with the admin specified during login I cannot view any of the preferences pages.

The login works fine and displays the 'Thank you for logging in' message. The user menu appears but clicking any of the buttons from Administration Menu down yields the message:
You do not have the right to access this area and dumps me back to the home page.

I tried the md5 integrity checker and it reports the content of all the files under Class/ to be invalid. So I've downloaded the XOOPS 2.0.15 from 3 different mirrors in both formats and replaced the contents of the class/ folder with these. Each time it says the files are invalid when running the checker. I tried a complete reinstall which went fine but I still experience the same problem. I've successfully installed 2.2 versions on two different sites and this is the first time I'm stuck.

Help would be very much appreciated.

Try this:

Well the good news is that there is a fix for this.

Now - please note: this hasn't been fully tested as of yet, but it should sort out the problem.

I would recommend you fully backup database & site of course before usage....

Anyway - download this file - and replace the current version of /class/xoopsform/form.php with this. You will need to right click 'save as' and select all files as the file choice in order to save it as a .php file ready to upload.

It may do the trick

Nope. No difference at all. How very frustrating. I think I'm just going to wipe the site clean and the database then try a different build.

Ok 2.0.13.2 works and has installed fine. Question is do I feel brave enough to try and upgrade it to 2.0.15 . I guess I will since I'm a sucker for watching that slow ftp upload....

Here goes.

Well the upgrade has worked - sort of. The upgrade instructions didn't seem to work, uploading the contents of htdocs overwrote mainfile.php which meant I had to go through another install process. However, the buttons on the preferences/control panel pane now work.

But user.php yields a blank page and the message received after logging in for the first time after confirming an account says you've already registered. I think I've seen something on this elsewhere on the forum though.

Ho hum, as long as it works eventually.

After spending several hours on this the last few nights and seeming to solve the problem, logging on this morning I'm back to square one with the same problem of it reporting I don't have permission to view each page and logging me off to the home page. I'm debating whether to go back to 2.0.14 or to go for a 2.2 version. Since I've two other sites running 2.2 I think I'm just going to try that. Time for a wipe and install again!

I'll try installing the info module as above. It does seem to be due to the hosting environment. I've lost count of how many installs and versions I've tried. Somewhat reassuringly another user in the subject above this has been having the same problem with the same host. I've established they are not running php in safe mode but they do note that although you can write session paths that php code to check session paths have been written will not work due to their set up. I've requested a refund and plan to change host - disappointing since they offer a very good unlimited space and bandwidth package.

I should have realised - given that clicking on the administration menu item after login yields 'You don't have the right to access this area' i wouldn't be able to install the module. One of the problems is it doesn't seem to cause an error other than this message.

My suspicion is that php has been restricted in some way by the host. I've run XOOPS on three other hosts without a problem. I'm highly attached to XOOPS and decided on it a few years back after trying other CMS options. In essence I've told my host that if they can't run a XOOPS install then I'll host elsewhere. I've spent well over 14 hours trying to sort this now which even after tax equates to 6 years of hosting fees with this host that doesn't work. So really I don't want to spend more time sorting this.
