Linux question for you Linux gurus.....

I have to admit, I don't know very much about Linux yet, so I am learning as I go. I am pretty much a Windows guy, but I came to realize that my site means alot to me and having it on a stable OS is very important. So in saying that I am having some problems with the way that my linux server is handling some of the images on my site. Some times the images are displayed and some times they aren't. I depends on what directory they reside in. Not that it is directory specific. But I have a feeling that it is permissions related, but being so new to the Linux front, I am running into problems that I am unsure of how to fix.

Why would a unix system not display an image in a folder, that has the same permissions and properties as every other folder under the root directory of the site? I guess that is my question.

Any help would be wonderful, and thanks for your time.

It's hard to help without seeing a specific example. But one difference between Windows and Linux is that Linux filenames are case-sensitive, so filename discrepancies that might have been ignored on Windows could cause problems on Linux.
