Read the Upgrading from 2.0.13.2 instructions very well and note the following:

I agree with Marco on this, the news is missing an essential part.

This is a release candidate, which means it is released for testing purposes only! Why a release candidate within the 2.0.x release series? Because 2.0.14 has some new features that should be tested thoroughly before being released as final. This is common practice with all new features being released. DO NOT USE THIS RELEASE TO UPGRADE YOUR LIVE PRODUCTION WEBSITE WITHOUT THINKING HARD ABOUT THIS! MAKE A FULL BACKUP OF YOUR SITE BEFORE UPGRADING AND TESTING!

One can't be clear enough about this, IMHO It's why there are RC releases!

Anyone can help,
I got problem when upgarading from 2.0.13.2 to 2.0.14-RC1!!!!

I use multilanguges module and then after upgrate XOOPS to 2.0.14-RC1 the module not work, and everything display in 2 languages.

I reinstall multilanguage module then the site not work any more with the error:

Fatal error: Call to undefined function: getinstance() in D:\hshome\acc257\ria1.org\include\common.php on line 40

Anyone can help???

Marco, you'll have to do that too before asking me to stop thinking!

ALL /2 files (except mainfile.php) need to be replaced with new ones from the 2.0.14RC1 package, and after that only those two files removed.

So first you upload them, and then remove them. If they're not part of the 2.0.14 package, then what is the reason for these to be removed? My questions are still logical.

I disagree with the red letters here... This is a release candidate which means that it's not released as a final version to stay prudent, but that unless big unexpected problems arise it's almost a "final release".
The new features may contain bugs, but as they are not used by any module until now, that's not what will break your site.
Anyway: it's always recommended to test an upgrade on a mirror before going live, whether you're upgrading to a beta, RC, final or whatever.

FYI: we successfully managed to update a copy of the www.xoops.org website to 2.0.14-RC1, while this site is one of the most messy I ever seen, and is full of archaic modules (which means it's a very good test platform).

As for the folders/files to delete: they are not in the package, that's the point. The Smarty class had been update in this version, and Smarty authors decided to rename one of their folders from "core" to "internals", which means that without deleting the old folder you'll happen to have one "old" smarty version in class/smarty/core and one recent version in class/smarty/internals.
For the resource.db.php file, the reason is a bit different: XOOPS specific templates plug-ins have been separated from the default Smarty plug-ins in 2.0.14, and thus resource.db.php has been moved from the "plugins" folder to the "xoops_plugins" folder. So keeping the old one wont break your site, but will prevent you from using one of the most exciting feature of this version (templates overriding), as the old file will be used instead of the new one.

No, you don't upload them ! Check the archives, they are not here... They are 2.0.13.2 files.

PS: If you ever have problems with this release, just re-upload the 2.0.13.2 files over it, and it should fix everything.

I like alot the evolution XOOPS is taking. There is a sense of a breaking point to it. The new features bring everything a step forward necessary to xoops, not only the stability it provides to the working environment, but as a designer I enjoy the new features and LDAP has been a great need when integrating other DB.

Thanks to the team in charge of developing Xoops. Without the people behind it this would not be possible.

With all the new things it has it would be nice that the module developers adapt the visual styles, their templates, images and css to the new XOOPS features.

It's not an error and won't affect the install. The error_reporting has been left on... and it's causing that warning.

You can safely ignore it. Or if you want to remove the warning then change install/index.php, line #28

It is on mine. I have noticed a few corrupted files so perhaps there is something wrong in my install...

The 1st field in admin|preferences|authentication is: Authentication Method
So, probably, as you thought your files are corrupted.

I can think of 2 possible reasons...

1. The upgrade script hasn't run correctly
After upgrading there should be new LDAP config records in the database table [prefix]_config. If you don't have them then try running the upgrade script again i.e. follow the upgrade instructions again.

2. You are using a language other than 'english'
If this is the case then you should still see an 'Edit' link on the admin->Preferences page, under the 'Mail Setup' option. The new LDAP language constants in modules/system/language/english/admin/preferences.php need to be translated to see the text which goes with the 'Edit' link.

after install all persian ( utf-8 charset ) db inputs are showing as "????????". eg: block titles.

is there anyone else have this problem? ( 2bytes charset)

i want to send it as a bug after 2 or 3 days.

Because the development of 2.3 will take a long time, and in the meantime, 2.0.14 will provide some of the new features from 2.3, and more importantly fix existing issues from 2.0.13.2

More importantly as well - 2.0.14 is helping to slowly reduce the differences from 2.0.13.2 - and 2.3 - so it makes upgrading easier for users of the current version.

If you have followed the svn releases - you will realise that code used in the new release has come (in part) from 2.3 - so the development is mostly parallel across the 2 releases. I believe some of this will also apply to the forthcoming 2.2.5 release.

If you visit devteam.xoops.org - you'll read most of this anyway.

Hooray for us Xoopsers,.yet another piece of software we can play with,.thank you.

One question.,.(oh oh here he comes again). As some have noticed I really want to see a nice date format in the native language of a site other then English. I have posted the 'problem/feature request' here.

Is there any chance this will be corrected in future releases? And I don't like to say this, but all mayor cms/blog's seem to tackle this very nicely, so I would like to see it, and many other with me, in Xoops.

Thank you for the release, keeps me of the street for some days;)

Ok guys, everytime a release gets published I get lost of wherever it's for me or not.. Im using 2.2.3 is that 2.0.14-RC1 release for me or not? if yes how come am I upgrading from 2.2 to 2.0? that's what i dont get..

Um..... Version 2.2 is higher then 2.0..... Therefore you would be downgrading, and this release is for 2.0.x.x series. If your on 2.2.3 and installed this you would have hella problems...

Quick explanation:

2.0 = 2.0 branch

2.2 = 2.2 branch

2.3 = 2.3 branch

So... if you're running 2.2, the 2.0 release will not apply to you, as it's from a different branch of Xoops.

You can use it, but only if you use the "downgrade" (bad choice of words as 2.0.14 is newer ) script to change to 2.0.13.2 first, then update your version to 2.0.14

2.0.14 > 2.0.13.2 - in otherwords .. if you're running 2.0.13.2 then 2.0.14 is newer (hence the larger number)

Remember - 2.0.14 is an RC... normally that wouldnt be recommended to update to, as it's technically a none-final release. It's up to you if you update, although I certainly am (So if you do update.... backup your data first! but remember Skalpa said you can downgrade to 2.0.13.2 by simply copying over the previous version)

A bug i have found in this release is if you set a center block to go below the module. Then it dosent appear in the groups admin page so if a block is set to appear bottom center then you cannot restrict viewers or allow anonymous users to view.

I know it's not a popular sentiment, but when are we actually going to get something NEW?????? I'm tired of all of these annoying maitenance releases. That's all that's been released in the the last 12 months. I appreciate everything the developers have done, but when is XOOPS going to move forward??

Define "New".

Currently the "moving forward" part is creating a stable foundation to build on. Therefore you will not get swamped with new features anytime soon. (if thats what you refer to with "New".

Since you have been around since 2001 i think you visited this site sometimes in 2005/2006 and might have followed up on things a bit.

Did you read the things post on the Core development site?

Thx to the dev team for keeping 2.0+ up to speed

but I have to confess, it's no surprise to me that users like cplus are confused.

IMHO it would be to everyone's advantage to give users/beta-testers of 2.2+ their own sub-site with a module repository, FAQ and forum relevant to that development.

I am confident that they, newcomers and die-hard users of 2.0+ would welcome a clearer division in the support for these significantly different versions of Xoops.

Wizanda.com will not run the upgrade script, it works on home system....

Yet what happens is instead of www.wizanda.com it just sticks wizanda.com and so says i need to be admin?

How can I make it work, I have tried adding a slash in my mainfile.php as the site is in its own www/ folder?

The Xoopscode.php needs adding off my site as that still exsists in the PM window as an error.

The $xoops_sitename changed to $sitename for the SiteIsClosed.tpl But I dont know if it only for this area or whole xoops???

No problems with user creation from admin side (Edit User) here. I just created a testuser and it went fine.

What are your config details?
(maybe you could open a forum thread for it by the way)

In a few days (no, no major bug apart from a stupid change that created problems with UTF8 but that was fixed quickly).

Ever since I installed this update, my site can no longer use smileys/links/images from the icons on message boards, comments, etc. Any idea what could be causing this?

Hey Bender, thanks for looking at my site. I have added a user with username-test password-test to the site. If you or anyone else could log in to see what I am talking about. Yes, there are smileys that are used on the forum but only from posts before I updated. When you click on any of the icons, such as smiley pictures or the link or image link icons, the code doesnt show up in the box anymore. I've also noticed that since the update whenever you click the "PM" button to message someone nothing pops up anymore. Thanks for the help in advance.

I just downloaded the XOOPS 2.0.version on the internet as a zipped file.When i unzipped i managed to see the following folders but with no inasallshield:htdocs ,upgrade ,docs and a tetx file.How do i install it if using a windows xp O/S and do i only have to use it with Apache web server and php/mysql or also IIS and Sql server.Please help
