Modules: News 1.3.1, definitive version

Hello,

The definitive version of the News module, 1.3.1, is available.
You can use it on a production website
It corrects some bugs of the previous release candidates.

List of changes
- A correction in the automatic generation of keywords and description has been made.
- The generation of PDFs was updated with the CBB's code.
- The statistical's part of the admin has been corrected
- A bug in the topics permissions has been corrected
- The module's seach was also corrected

How to get the module
Simply go to its homepage :

Upgrade
Launch the following script :
http://www.example.com/modules/news/admin/upgrade.php

Php 5 compatibility
The module was succesfully tested with Php 5.0.4
Many tests were made with phpcoverage and xdebug to be sure that early all the code was treated by Php that's why I can affirm that the module is Php 5 compatible.

I´m sorry Herve, my meaning is, the module is buggy!? Some of my friends and i still have problems with the blocks. If you change something and reload the module, the blocks not visible. I can´t change the number of the title, it will go back to 25! Some blocks show only date of 1.1.1970 but no title.

The problems are still on XOOPS 2.1.0 and 2.1.1 and i didn´t find a way to solve it. The Debug-Modus shows no error. I´m not sure are the problems in your script or its a problem with your news-module and xoops.

Thanks, Herve, for the continued progress with this excellent module.

I, as well, continue to have problems especially with the recent news block (v. 2.0.11), particularly the Spotlight feature. I set the block to be visible, set it to display recent news (5 articles),length of title = 25, teaser length 55, enable spotlight feature set for recent news. I am not setting a Spotlight image. I update the module. Then, in the newly created block, it displays the date of news article, the title, but will not under any circumstances display the teaser. It also displays 10 articles, not the five I set for it to display. The teaser is entirely absent.

When I go back to the blocks admin, it again says 10 articles, the teaser length is now 0 and the Spotlight feature is turned off. Its almost as though some things that are supposed to be saved to the database are being wiped out. The block itself is still set to be visible, though, so that, at least seems to get saved.

PLease know that I am NOT being critical. I have too much respect for the team for that. Just trying to give feedback that I hope will be helpful.

1. How do you set the mime/types allowed?

Chappy - wiping out block settings on module update is a problem with XOOPS 2.0.x that will hopefully be fixed in 2.2 (my tests indicate that it is)

ditto, the block settings going back to default is a 2.0x issue. It happens to most of the modules when updating. Good idea to note what special settings you might have before updating. Then run like crazy putting everything back as you need it.

I tested this version and so far it seems to work very well. The bugs as mentioned and a few others (like some of the Spotlight details) are fixed.

The spotlight feature is now good enough I think to replace my dedicated spotlight module. One note however, if you use the tab feature you'll want to turn off the block's cache. The cache content will prevent showing any clicks on the tabs. But it makes sense and not a big deal. Nice feature.

Hi all

I find (for me) a way to solve not to fix it. Overwrite all files (see Upgrade.TXT) and go in the Administration. Reload the News-Modul, after u call in your Browser (see post from hervert) "www.yourdomain.com/modules/news/admin/upgrade.php"

Now you go to the settings, your choice must be topics, save this settings. After you go the settings for the blocks and save it.

Now call again "www.yourdomain.com/modules/news/admin/upgrade.php" and retype the settings for the block - and see - it works now. If you reload the module, you must do the same procedure again. Tested on XOOPS 2.1.1

P.S. Some have still the problems, the block shows only 01.01.1970 - nothing more.

this means that the german language files, reachable on the the german support site, are a little bit incomplete, because the files are translated for version 1.3

Thanks for this version update, the upgrade on both my sites went smoothly.

I like the fact the spotlight block for recent news items now has a image for the news topic. However, I would like it if the text or contents on the news item was besides the image and not under it as it's wasting screen space how it is now.

Is there a way to change this?

Upgrade went well.
Nevertheless a new error appears:
It concerns a javascript msgs within the adminarea of the news. It shows up with:
Category manager and post/edit news.
