Modules: Shoutbox 3.1

Another new version of the Shoutbox 3.x serie. Not much changed, mainly bugfixes. If everything goes like planned, the next version should be able to store the shouts in a mysql table.

Till then you will have to deal with this version:
Download Shoutbox 3.1

Changelog:
* Fixed: Possible warning in popup.
* Fixed: Wrong variable selection in popupframe
* Fixed: Forgot ":" after anonymous name...

* Changed: If you now deselect "guest" may post and block is visible to guests they will see the shouts but won't be able to add. This option gots now a logic!
* Changed: Almost all repeated actions are now packed in one class. This will speedy the conversion to a sql version.

* Added: You got now a maxview function. This is seperated from the trim function.

The comments are owned by the author. We aren't responsible for their content.

The following languages are included and up-to-date:
- English
- Dutch
- Slovenian (Slovensko)
- Persian
- Portuguese (Português (do Brasil))

The following languages are included but should be updated:
- German (Deutsch)
- Spanish (Español)
- Traditional Chinese (中文 (繁體))

What has changed in the language files:

jan i will update persian language.
but i test this version and have some problems with utf-8 charset.
do you reproduce it?

Since I only speak English and Dutch I never used the UTF-8 charset. Where is the problem located? The shouts users post or language files?

If it is the shouts of the users itself you might want to manually add a meta tag content-type in the template.

There is no easy way to do this. There is no main, simply because it is a shoutbox, not a real chat module.

You might want to add the javascript to open the popup in your mainmenu, your choice.

A shameless request, like that

. I have though about it, but the problem is mainly that:
1) My coding skills aren't that fantastic
2) Shoutbox should stay a shoutbox, not a chat module

that modification in template does not solve the encoding problem.
now its very strange but i find a silly solution and solve it.
i save shoutframe.php with utf-8 charset and now it works fine.

I prefer not to save my files in UTF-8 since it is not the perfect solution for my language. However, I added in all files a charset attribute.

Please download again and tell me or the problem is solved, or not. And thx for the language.

i've installed it a couple of days and it was working perfectly. now am having problems. the shout are not being shown on the block but when you show the pop-up, the shouts shows. i reinstalled the module but still the same problem. in fact in firefox, it's just blank and in IE it says action canceled. any thoughts?

I found some traditional characters cannot be correctly saved into the CVS file and some cannot be displayed on the brower. The users will see some strange chinese characters. For example, the chinese character "四"(four), it changed to another chinese character "札". Any advise on solving this problem?

Do the chinese characters display properly in your XOOPS site (except then from the shoutbox)? If so, I wouldn't understand why this is happening. The charset is defined properly and a browser should render everything properly.

A question: is the correct character saved? (Check file uploads/shoutbox/shout.cvs)

i enabled debug and i don't see any error. weird thing is, the shout outs are showing sometimes and not showing sometimes.

Other areas of my XOOPS site do not have this problem.

For those strange chinese characters, the CVS "uploads/shoutbox/shout.cvs" do not save them correctly.

If you manually create a shout.cvs file, save it as an utf-file, upload it, is then the problem solved?

Hello Lakota here ... I am using Shoutbox 3.1, the pop up error of "additional plugins are require to display all the media on this page." I am using firefox and most of my user are getting the same message. Any thoughts or Idea's ?

Hi Lakota,

Like I told in PM, you prolly enabled the 'make sound on new message' feature. Firefox will need 3th party software to make sound (for example Quicktime) and will notify you.

SO just disabling that feature will solve your problem. You also just might to install the required plugin...

Hi just upgraded to the new version 3.1 from 3

Before i had it, that it said you need to loggin to use the shout box as guests was disabled
yet visable to guests in groups

Since upgrading if it is visable to guests, and so they can't post, it causes the page to have an error, any ideas why??

This is my temp solution to the word wrap issue in the block;

in shoutframe.php, find this;

the '21' is the max number of characters you want before a space is inserted causing the looooong line of text or url to wrap.
It WILL break the url, so if you need the url intact, this is probably not for you...

Absolutely brilliant module!
Best chat there is for XOOPS

One small question:
Is there any way i can change the direction of new shouts - new shouts scrolling up from the bottom rather than from the top?
Maybe change shoutbox_block.html?

Some hints would be very much appreciated

Q: Is it possible to disable the "ERASE" button on the shoutbox? I didnt realize that it erases everyones shout not just your own.

Anyone else make any further progress on word wrapping?

Although my above metioned 'hack' will do it...it is far from perfect.

For instance....long web addresses get cut into peices. Certain characters do not get broken when exceeding the 21 character mark.
for instance: weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee! wil get cut into peices and display without scrolling left and right...but weeeeeeeee!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! will not (the exclamation point doesn't count in the char set or something)

Also...since the very beginning, there has been an error with the shoutbox. It displays in the notification area of IE (also the above mentioned errors for FF)...however, this has nothing to do with including a sound file. My belief is that it has to do with the fact that it does not effectively divide it's functions based on user groups. When it is set for anonymous people to not be able to shout, it generates errors in the page....which in turn cause a not so graceful degredation in it's functionality...and eventually it just throws up 404 pages in the shout box.

Don't get me worng...I LOVE the module and still feel as though it is the best overall shoutbox for XOOPS at the current time. I am also on-board with many of the current users that wish that it could be used more like a standard chat room when in the pop-up mode....

I'm a bit new to the whole XOOPS thing, but for the most part i've been able to handle installing modules that are supplied on this site.. I had no trouble installing the shoutbox either but there's still a problem... I have no clue how to access it. Can someone shed some light on me please?
