Hi,

Recenctly GuitarGearHeads.com and Brandycoke.com release SuperSpotlight BETA to the Xoops community. This one had few issues in relate to mini spotlight.

I have worked upon it to fix following thigns

1. Takes automatic latest news from various topics. Thus now if a mini spotlight is selected it points to latest news in that given topic.

2. Custom text can be placed for topic (as in earlier version) Thus the latest news can have a different text on the front page.

Upcomings are varios presentation formats. Since automatic update issue is fixed now

Do let me know how do you feel about this.

All Credit goes to intial developers, i just modified to meet some of basic requirements.

i can change everything, but i dont get displayed images in mini spotlights... bug ???

maydo: disable the two coloum view from prefernces. this can be one of the cause.

I think update will be not of much help. Since 2.1 mini spotlight shows specific stories and 2.2 shows latest story from specific topic. Thus its recommended that you uninstall the existing one and reinstall the new one.

I have not worked on update script as of now, thus you would need to do a fresh install as of now.

Some other template related issues also has been fixed in this release. the vertical alignment of news where not perfect in old version. In new version its been fixed too. By default mini spotlight will show just first 400 characters of the news

This module still can't seem to handle the basic notion of apostrophe (' ") that are found in news titles.

If you have a news item titled: People's Choice Awards.

Then it will display this way in the Other news section: People' S Choice Awards.

Needless to say, this bug is ubiquitous and unfortunate.

Anybody got any ideas on how to fix this?

Yes that (') is there inherent. I didnt looked into it. Similary didnt even touched the stuffs for wfsection.

I have managed to get 2 out of 5 mini spotlights displayed, but I can see only one of them and also the one I have chosen from the news block config. ??

mini spotlight wont show the same news thats there in the main spotlight, so if the main spotlight is showing news "XYZ" of topic "ABC" and in mini spotlight you have selected topic "ABC" then it wont show that news. Thats removal of duplicate issue.

Hi Vinit!

A few comments/wishes regaring this rather usefull module...
In the current Mini Spotlights it shows the "latest article in a specific topic" and that is great!

#1 - I would like to be able to pick a specific article within a topic as well.
This would make the module very flexible i think. So when I chose "no" at the question "Show the articles in this topic" it gives me the option to chose any article. A mix between 2.1 and 2.2 - is it possible?

#2 - When a article is shown in Mini Spotlights(More Features) the header is not included...
Could it be? Or could this be made an option?

Thanks for your continued work on this - I knew I could count on the community to take this mod and run with it.

I think SuperSpotLight gives such an awesome dynamic feel to websites - definately a "pro" feel.

I do think some of the legacy format (horizontal and vertical) coding probably needs to be removed since it just confuses people who haven't developed the module and just want to use it.

yes dlh, this is awesome model, a good webmaster can use it for really very intersting purpose. Not only text but flexibility of having images binding to a story etc are really good ones. I will work more on different templates of news presentation.

Thus giving a different look to the site.

I tried to use this again figuring that since I created the .htaccess magic quotes file which fixed (https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=31123&forum=27&post_id=135994#forumpost135994) my quotation mark problem in other modules like AMS and News that it would fix it in the Spotlight module too.

Unfortunately, the problem with apostrophes in titles still exist (https://xoops.org/modules/newbb/viewtopic.php?topic_id=28821&forum=28&post_id=125813#forumpost125813) in the spotlight module. Anyone know why the spotlight module wouldn't respect my .htaccess file that turns off magic quotes? I placed my .htaccess file in the modules folder so it should affect all the modules. Just to be on the safe side I copied one directly into the Spotlight module but the problem still exist.

Damn, this mod looks good, but it's still not ready for primetime I believe. Hopefully this will get taken care of in the next version.

I also have not been able to eliminate the problem with quotes.

However, the module still looks good. I just sort of write about it...and if I can't I live with it. My users don't seem to mind really.

Hopefully it'll get addressed in 2.3 or so.

I was just wondering if this module was going to be continued to be developed? I know News 1.3 has built-in spotlight features but I liked the layout more of this spotlight (and the AMS buil-in spotlight feature) and would like to use it. Unfortunately with the apostrophe problem I cannot utilize on my site. I hope it's still being developed because it was a good foundation.

This is my version not Vinit's slightly upgraded version. I will be upgrading this a bit in the near future and will release.

Still works good for me -- except for the little quote issue...
