Hi xoopsers,
i've tried to give a new,fresh look to the good-old admin area interface.
I've redesigned the Cpanel from scratch and added new features.It's up to you discovering them...

This release is still beta and has bugs and messy code.
I'd like to receive your feedbacks and suggestions here via comments or to the upcoming project on dev.xoops.org

i dun get it..
is it the domain cPanel ?
or the XOops admin area?

can i see it before i download? any demo site available?

whilst i haven't downloaded it yet, i can see from the screen shots, you've put a lot of work into it, and from what i see i can say it looks excellent :)

very clean and organised.. and pretty professional too :)

Wow! I love this hack. Nicely done, and really smooth interface. Why don't you submit this hack to the dev site, and maybe this gets an official hack?

This beta release is actually the very first take on this subject by Ralf, for the project that looks into redesigning the whole administration interface: processes and GUI together. The ideas in that project (see the active discussions on sf.net) go far beyond this first draft, but this draft helps a lot in the discussion on what we want.

So, in short, the admin redesign is in progress, but we're looking at it from the ground up: how do you administrate the website, and how do you manage your content. From that, we define some processes, and from that, we design a GUI. It'll probably take a while before this is completely done, and untill then this is a good implementation, but as such it will not be part of the core.

Wicked! Just so happens that I posted a gripe about the control panel not more than a few minutes ago. Very nice. I have one suggestion at the moment and that is that I did however like the immediate access to all the module preferences in the old design whereas they are now two clicks deep via Installed Modules >> Module Administration.

I like this - I like it a lot.

Only thing, I feel is a bit off is the "latest xx" since they depend on modules or hard-coding (I assume, I haven't looked at the actual code, yet)

However, the admin overview with PHP settings and XOOPS settings is very cool - some quick settings should be added to the front admin page such as setting debug level directly from there (if permissions allow it) and a few more - but as a first draft, it is very impressive.

Good work and I'll look forward to seeing how this progresses.

I downloaded the package and it into my test local server, I'm wondering where are the images or maybe the control panel doesn't work.

Nevermind I got it, just my files did not uploaded properly.

So far it's fast loading control panel, organized menu.

Suggestions:
- Focus on changing each page for a unique function. Example, the edit users page also include add users below the edit block, try to seperate them into two page so you can have the link at the menu for each features. Why? it will make each page load faster. I know it's not a page but I can't said anything else.

- Manager and organize the Group page. All the checkbox are all over the place. make them align into straight column or two column and put background color for each block section (right, center, left etc.)

- Manage and fix up the List of Blocks. Make the group into background colors. Hints: Module column name will set into unique color for each name, use some script which function as sorting the modules column but instead of sorting make them with colors for "system" name, "download" name and others modules made by other people will set into differ color too by name detection.

Yes, we are following the progress with a great deal of interest and WILL be implementing this, most likely in XOOPS 2.1

Blocks and Groups administration needs a fresh look and a change in workflow - Draven is very involved in new functionality needed for blocks positioning and visibility and I will be paying close attention to the groups management.

Nice clean interface, installed patch no problem. I like the fact that the module icons are gone, they never cached well and took up precious bandwidth and time to render. An option to show or not may be nice though.
I will test it locally and let you know if I have any problems.

Cosmetic point... The module info update admin icons would look nice if they were right aligned as the info and update are always there but admin not.

One question though - how do you go in and edit the individual modules? Not add/delete them, but actually go in and work with them?

This is not so explicited

and has to be changed.
Now go to Installed modules and click the first icon in the Action column.

Just installed this locally and I have to add my thanks like everyone else here. This is a splendid update for the administration section. I still suffer from having to use a 56k modem here and you cant imagine what a relief it will be to use admin without all those tiresome module icons. It would be nice to customise the admin start page and set up items that we use most. Dare I add a criticisms here?... Only this, I don't like installing hacks on the system. If this were a module it would be 100%.

[edit]I also suggest you consider creating a customisable user menu that can be installed as a block in the main webpage, (for webmasters only)something like the extensible waiting contents block but with customisable admin functions.

You are on a roller here! Good luck with the development

Good job on the overall design. If I may make a few suggestions.

"latest" I'm gonna go with what another admin said about the whole latest thing. I like the idea of having the latest stuff posted in admin area, but make it a module that almost every site will have ie news or something along those lines.

"No direct module access" It would be nice if you could make another menu where you could immediately access the module sections without having to go deeper into the admin area. I don't know that I like the pop up menu that they had before, but something that would allow you to immediately make one click and be in that modules admin area.

"colors" I don't know that the color or the default size of the font is good. For people like me who like higher screen resolution the font is already a bit smaller than normal. As far as the colors go, I don't like the fade thing you got going on the left, It's not that easy on the eyes and neither is the bright blue.

"overall" I like this hack a lot, I think it's a great addition to the XOOPS cms and I can tell a lot of work went into it, I think that there are just a few minor changes that need to be made and it will be a hard hack to beat. Thanks for raising the bar.

i really like this modification. i removed the onmouseover/onmouseout actions for the left menu, and set the default class to classnameon for each grouping, now the menu looks great.

as for the Latest blocks, they're nice looking, but the font isn't lining up inside the blocks properly for me, not sure why. (1280x1024 res in IE)

yes i'm havin the same problem as bd_csmc regarding the block positioning..

using IE6 1024x768 res..

I tested this on my offline server, which is a direct copy of my online site server. It works awesome on my offline server, but on my online server, the admin panel wont display right, . Dont get pretty icons and boxes, just plan text, anyone know what problem is?

clear out your templates_c folder..... i had the very same problem, and that fixed it.
