When I click the book or "more info" nothing happens...shouldn't it take me to Amazon?

My mistake.

I'll post a new version shortly. But if you want to fix it yourself, in modules/bookstore/templates/bookstore_index.html

the two references to <{$book.url}> should be <{$book.Url}> (note uppercase U)

The blocks work correctly, it's the main page's template that has the error.

Hi Great Modules, please include some other amazon catagories like video games.

One other thing, I have a developers token, but how can your put your amazon affiliate ID. If sales are made do we get ca$h. Is just a developer token enough?

Or the module is still in beta?

Great module...xoops needs a full blown amazon module like this...

Hi -

Other categories are coming soon. I'm still trying to figure out how the user interface should look.

How do people want this to work?

It could be like Forums on xoops.org, with one entry ("Forum") in the left block menu, and then sub topics are listed on the main Forum page.

Or it could look like News, with a main menu item of "News", and then sub menus "Submit News", and "Archives". ("Amazon", and "Book", "Video Games") I like that idea better, but I'm not sure I can change the menus without reloading the module, since that information seems to come from xoops_version.php

Perhaps some other model, like tabs across the top?

Suggestions are welcome.

I don't want the user to have to reload the module to do any config changes (like adding video games, for example).

And the associate id is in admin/asearch.php, look for $associate_id, and change it to yours.

Hi Tom thank you for this module, it's great.
Some questions/suggestions :
Maybe change the directory name to bookstore (not bookstore_0.91

When I click on the module in the main menu I get only one page with say 20 items. When I have 30 items, 10 are not shown. So some kind of "next" "previous page" could be build in.

My favorite is display like in forums

* I agree with adding the ability to have multiple pages.

* It would also be nice if, when the user clicked to get more information, if it opened a separate window instead of taking the person away from your site. :)

* Also please add more sections such as Games, Computer stuff, etc.

Nice module, thanks for that. I agree, target a blank page on all offsite links. Also Looking at Amazon's developer API there's a lot more things you can do; Why not include their search box?? make a whole meal of it!

Something else I thought of...

It would be nice if the 'Covers Only' block (as well as other Blocks) would randomly pick the covers to display instead of always using the last one you entered into the DB. :)

Because I have a multilingo site I tried to implement language constants.
This is in language/english/admin.php

Is it not finding the module to install at all? Or are you getting this partway through?

Can you tell me what steps you take, and at what point you get the error message? And the precise text of the message would help.

Let me know, and I can download 2.05, and try to duplicate it.

p.s. If it's not finding the module at all, it might be because I didn't include the path to the module in the zip file, while most modules seem to. So you'd want to install by making the 'bookstore' directory, and unzipping into that dir, not just unzipping the file from the modules directory.

I didn't think I set the directory name to bookstore_0.91. It should be in "bookstore". I'm surprised it works if the directory name is changed.

The number of items displayed on the page is set in the configuration part of the bookstore module administration. Set 'perPage' to the maximum number of items you want to display on the bookstore main page.

Multi page display is not in the current version. But it's coming soon.

I had the same problem, until I renamed the module folder from bookstore_092 to bookstore. Now all is right with the world. :)

Module Directory Problem?

Hi -

So two people have mentioned the bookstore ending up in directories named bookstore_092 or bookstore_0.91

Is this just because I didn't specify the directory path in the zip file, so people chose something manually? Or there something else I'm missing?

I'll make sure the dir name is included in the next release.

TOM , Problem solved re my installation failure. When I looked at your scripts I realised that your module directory is named wrong (bookstore_0.92) All your scripts call "bookstore", that's why the installation failed. It's all sorted now, but I think you should rename the distribution if not already done:

Now some comments about usage. I display a bibliography page on my site and I thought doing this via bookstore would be a grat idea. So what we are talking here is CATEGORIES of book lists. Ie cat_1 My reading list. Cat_2 Site bilio. Cat_3 readers recommendations.Cat_4 My wishlist. All discreet. A comments view is also shouting to be included beneath each book. To save cluttereing the page, make a link to "Comments" beneath each entry in the list. This opens the single entry with comments form and existing comment entries, you know the sort of thing. I also included Amazons "light search" in a side block using this code

It works a charm and provides a nice extra. Anyway some food for thought.

Here are some other suggestions to beef up the module:

- wieght setting for book/item order.
- Searchquery page only displays fixed value of items. There needs to be a "next page->" option
- Same in user page display list. There needs to be a "next page->" option
- Searchquery form needs to be duplicated in results page, or a link back to it.
- Can this module work with "Amazon associates" A valuable consideration?

But if I do, of course it should. Is there a problem? My boosktore sales are currently about 0, so I haven't been able to prove that every thing works properly with commissions, etc. Can someone with an active site verify this?

Remember to change the $associate_id to yours, in asearch.php, or I get the commisions!

This is better documented in the next release.

Bookstore Admin/Configure bookstore lets you set the number of books diplayed in each page, block and query. So you can set this to 50, and get lots of results at one time. But you are right, paging through might be better.

And I've added this information to the readme.txt, since this seems to be the most common FAQ.

No your distribution names the final file set directory "bookstore_0.92" That's why it failed to install. I had to rename it to "bookstore" to get it to work.

The module rocks big time and I look forwad to the next iteration.

One final Question: What happens when XCGal meets Bookstore??

Answer: You get the mother of book modules!

Well done. This is fine contribution to the XOOPS repetoire of modules. It's really good to see you and fatman produce well integrated modules using resources from API and soap. They maintain XOOPS identity and integrity and yet expand its potential into new and exciting areas.

I'm really liking this mod. As another poster said, I think that this begins to open up the doors to making some badly needed cash for our site. I do look forward to the search function. Also, I wonder if it's possible to randomize the books that appear in the blocks? Finally, as has been mentioned, we also have our own reviews. It would be nice to be able to integrate them into the site.

I installed the module and it's running quite nicely. The only thing is that it still has the worldware assoc_id listed in the link that shows up when it goes to amazon. Of course, I'm glad that your getting credit for your work , but despite changing the developers token, the assoc_id in a_search.php, resetting the cache, is there something I'm missing as to getting my assoc_id to show up? Any thoughts? I'm sure it's just me doing something dumb, but I've run out of ideas. Is there anyplace else it may be drawing the worldware assoc_id from? Thanks for all you're doing!

That's strange.

I just tested it on my dev site, changing it to webservices-20, and it worked right away.

Any chance you have caching enabled? Either on xoops, or somewhere on your webserver?

All you should have to do is change $associate_id in asearch. (A quick grep on worldware shows only that, and the unused $Tag in admin/index, so there's really nowhere else it could be coming from.)

If it's local reviews, would the standard XOOPS comment system work?

I may have to do a hack to work around the limited column size/type in the comments code. Can anyone help with this? It's described in this thread:

Well, it must have been caching it somehow, though, as I said, I reset the cache site wide, for the blocks, and for the module. I uninstalled the module, then reinstalled it and it did fine. Could it have been set somewhere in the database, thus not changing after I changed the file? I changed the dev key and the assoc_id after I uploaded and installed the mod, so the change in the a_search file would have been made after the database was already set up. Don't know if this has anything to do with it or if I just missed something pretty obvious (which is very likely the case!). Whatever...

Hopefully, you got some sales out of it!

The mere fact that I don't have to look up ISBN numbers, download images and create the pages myself is a huge timesaver in and of itself.

You have done a fantastic job with what you have released so far. Never have I seen such power in a tiny little module! Looking forward to future development, GREAT JOB!

Just to echo a few others here, I'd love to be able create some catagories for items.

Also, wouldn't it be nice to have a link (or button) that would add it to the cart (so long as one is signed into Amazon)? I've seen that available somewhere.

Are you going to have a pager in the next version. I've got about 25 books listed on my bookstore block and lots more books to add. But there are so many that it looks kinda suckie. Anyway, the categories thing looks great on worldware!

Well, the problem lies in, say you have a Category of PHP/MySQL Books and you have 50+ books listed. Then someone hits your site at 800x600 - BOOM! 4 mile page that completely extends past the 'normal' boundaries of your site.

It's nice to be able to list 10 Books/Page, etc.

I'll take pretty much whatever you got, Tom. But paging does seem important to me, even with categories. One of my categories, Alzheimers Disease, has about 20 books already, and I've only begun to scratch the surface. It looks pretty full when you get all those books on one page. Again, though, the categories are probably the first place to go as far as I'm concerned. Please don't take this as criticism.

I agree - pagination would be ultimate. I can try to brak things down into sub-catagories, but even so I may end up having 30+ items in some of them.
