My xoops website is storing 11GB of data in the xoops_data folder.
Can I delete some of its folders or files to gain space?

Go to the Admin Maintenance tab, select all three Cache folders and click in the "Send " button to clear the Cache folders. If there is so many files, you might need to do it couple of times, as the server might kill the process if it runs too long.

You need to tell XOOPS exactly where the files are. This is done in the "mainfile.php"

Look for these and make sure they are set correctly:

XOOPS_ROOT_PATH
XOOPS_PATH
XOOPS_VAR_PATH

My xoops website is storing 11GB of data in the xoops_data folder.

Mamba; I tried your solution but it did not work, could you please give me step by step instructions, there are several options in the Maintenance tab and I am not sure what to select.

Can I delete files in this folder using ftp?

- Go to Maintenance
- on top, you see "Clean cache folder", select all of the folders there, by using mouse and "Shift" key
- press on "Send" button in the same form, right below the "Purge unused custom avatars"

Yes, but leave the index.html, or copy it back, if you delete all files.
make sure that you ONLY delete the files from these folders:

xoops_data/caches/smarty_cache
xoops_data/caches/smarty_compile
xoops_data/caches/xoops_cache
