I'm a newbie and just installed 2.0.16 for our company Intranet.

[1] I want to turn the site off so only employees can access it.

[2] I also want to enable employees to register at the site so I don't have to enter all the data...and I didn't see an admin/create user function. It appears if I turn the site off then I can't use register.php.

[3] After a new employee registeres, expect to receive an email, then I'll login and assign them to the correct work group.

Is there a good way to handle this?

No need to turn your site off, just have it set up so that the only thing visible to anonymous is the login block. Then they can use the Register link on that block to do the register thing. Or have no login block visible, and direct potential users to yoursite.com/user.php.

Thank you. I'm just getting rolling. The next question is regarding an auto login so the PW is in the cookie too. Baby steps.

There is an autologin hack available, just do a search :)
