Hi WonderFish...
Could you mere specific, what u want to modify? Perhaps some mock layout image that you want, so i could give you better advice.

If you r talking about spolight, you could choose or add your own layout at block->edit.

sorry for almost no documentation... we keep delaying it due to other commitment, but we promise once we have time, we slowly write or capture video (faster :)) to show the functionality and how to modify AMS.

Now we little bit busy upgrading our XPRESS module (wordpress for XOOPS, enhanced from xoopsforge@phpp code) from 2.0.11 (latest 2.0.x branch) to 3.0.0 (latest wordpress). If anyone interested with this module, please hold yourself 1st, since it only for NovaSmart use and not targeted for public release due to hassle to make it compatible with multiple configuration (php, apache, xoops versions). If it stable enough, then we will release it in our website for public download with minimal support.

We will continue AMS 3.0 development once it done.

@ GreenFlatDog
Your wish will be granted on AMS 3.5. It is cloneable, so you can put identical AMS module in /modules/new or /modules/AMS or /modules/anything. You can have multiple AMS in 1 XOOPS installation.

Hi bumciach..

This is quite old thread. You shouldn't resurrect it, but instead create new one for you.

AMS 2.52 will disable WYSIWYG even XOOPS editor been installed if it found that the phpp/xoopsforge framework is missing. you can download XOOPS editor at

After reading all the comments, looks like I should take middle way, by keeping AMS separately but slowly adding News features.

In whole duration I take over AMS development; when I'm adding new features on AMS, I keep looking at News to make sure I didn't break the database structure, so I could use any subroutine or code from News with minor rework. Leveraging on other opensource code always the best method since we have very limited time.

I didn't familiar with 'super' spotlight. I should get my hand dirty on jQuery soon, so i could understand it and decide its ok to implemet it or not.

I'm fan of Ajax, but for AMS, I'll slowly add-in Ajax on editor/submit and admin but not for article/anonymous view for SEO sake. But that plan should be on AMS 4.

Hi all... thanks for your thought sharing. I still didn't decide yet, how to proceed. Mean while, I'll still waiting for more feedback. I'll put more weight to the people who know News and AMS, since they are the one who know both, but opinion people that familiar with News as valuable too.

If I choose to merge, I'll straight start as AMS(or AMSnews 4.0) and skip another major release;version 3.5 (cloneable), since I think we can wait cloneability for another major release (perhaps AMSnews 3.5).

If not, than I'll continue with AMS roadmap and add new features (popular) that requested by AMS user.

AMS 3.0 just around the corner. XOOPS and ICMS support already complete. Now, I'm busy with compatibility with XOOPS Cube, XOOPS 2.0 and XOOPS 2.2. After this 3 XOOPS version completely validated, then I'll release as full version. If you can't wait, you can always download from our SVN or visit our website to get the development version. Latest development version, AMS 3.00 Alpha 2 should be stable enough, but not recommended for production release yet.

Could you state the AMS version, XOOPS version, PHP version?
And could you turn on the debug and paste the error here?

AMS shouldn't have the Turkish translation since none of us speak other than Malay & English, except you download it from external website that provide a few other language like spanish.

I never test AMS with other language actually. So, there is might be a bug, causing AMS to become blank when translation is missing

After few days thinking... I think its quite make sense to combine AMS 3.0 with News 1.64. Since AMS originally fork from News 1.2, 70% of the code actually identical.

However, AMS already evolve so much to the different focus area... be a article management, with some big changes like spotlight, versioning, audience that may take a while before it could be fully integrated.

Here, I want to ask to everyone...

1) Should it combined, or let AMS evolve as it is and only adding features that needed/requested by article management user. So it will not bloat up with features that not needed.

if combined:

2) Use AMS as a based, and add in News code. Folder will be /modules/AMS, prefix will be ams_
3) Use News as a based, and add in AMS code. Folder will be /modules/news and prefix will be news_
4) Use News as a based, and add in AMS code. Folder will be /modules/ams_news and prefix will be amsnews_

As a developer, I'll like to choose (3) since news have a few features that AMS didn't have, but I'm not familiar with the coding yet, but I already familiar with AMS coding, so port it might be little bit easier. No renamed need, so I can truly focus on porting AMS features. However, it may clash with other News 1.64 continuation/development that pursue by XOOPS and ICMS core developer. (4) will need all prefix to be renamed (including function name) that will caused me to touch every single file and do tons of testing to make sure none of them broken. It also complicate the process merging the amsnews coding with other news continuation that i mention before (icms & XOOPS core) since diff will highlight all changes including function name.

I let XOOPS community to voice your opinion, and I'll consider it.

Yes... AMS can be configured easily to display many news. It also allow you to choose how it can be displayed. I'll post the screen shot how to do that if you want.

redheadedrod:
Spotlight block had been integrated natively inside AMS for years (no hacking needed). Maybe I misunderstood your statement, but if you talking about just Spotlight block, i think AMS is the best and most flexible with multiple template and support custom template easily.

Burning:
Yes, there is real plan to do so. I'm waiting AMS 3.0 to be release 1st, then I'll make script to import data from News, SmartSection etc. Since there is possibility News will be abandon by original developer, this script become more urgent for XOOPS community.
