What just crossed my mind (regarding photo album).

As the number of photos they will want to have published will be limited, and most likely not resemble a big collection, you might want to use a module such as tinycontent, instead of one of the gallery modules.

You could assign a page for different sections/topics (e.g. Tracy, Her Children, Her Family), and post them all nicely on one page.

BTW, GIJOE has made TinyD duplicatable, so you could use one for photos, and one for stories, poetry, etc.

Two suggestions:

1) change shortcut icon (here are two I quickly created)

2) take away the 'groove' border from the blocks, and replace with a flower ribbon (as you have at the bottom of her image); for which I would suggest this method (not the best semantics, but does the job, and is pretty easy to implement {used it for my current theme, which is still in development})

Just my stupid ideas

Community Code is just in development, and they are still looking for people to help. This weekend there will be an IRC meeting coming up...if you're interested

@Damaster: keep in mind that FOSS developement processes are rather governed by Meritocractic decision making processes, than democratic.

This weekend there is the the <a href="http://www.edexpo.info/">Education Expo</a>, held at:
Quote:

Exhibition Centre, Rosehill Racecourse, Sydney, Australia
Sat 14 and Sun 15 May 2005, 10am - 4pm daily

Access is open to parents, students and teachers.

Would present a good oportunity to present XOOPS, though most likely too late for organisation. Just found out via the mailinglist of <a href="http://www.communitycode.org">Community Code</a> (for those aussies here on Newstart Allowance wanting to spend their time in a productive manner).

Due to lack of interest, lack of time on my side, but especially due to meetup.com now introducing charges, this project will be one of the most short lived within the XOOPS Community.

If at some stage there does arise an interest in this kind of group, I will happily help to organize. We wouldn't need the assistance of meetup, as we could solve organizational issues here on XOOPS.org.

How about you take a look at GIJOEs Block Admin Module, that should resolve your problem/issue

Just use the WebDeveloper Extension for firefox. With it, you can easily display what ids/classes are used on a page...and much, much more, very valuable when designing themes, or web pages in general.

Still not good! I gave up, after first having to wait over a minute for the front page to load, and then clicking on a link, just to wait again.

What do you need that flash bit for anyway? Flash should never be used for a menu! It can be used for complex animations, but thats it. Anything else is abuse in my eyes.

Macromedia likes to tell you differently, as they earn money with it, but just ask usability and accessability expert. I keep having this discussion, with a friend of mine, wo studied web design at a design institution. They love it, but it's not suitable for anything but the above mentioned.

* If you need sound -> googel results

* If you want that symbol turning -> gif animation

* Dynamic menu -> java script + CSS

Keep in mind, many users give up, when loading time is too long. Explain this to your clients/friends. So no one besides them, will actually look at the site. Many users are still on 56k modems! Keep that in mind.

The joke for me in the design is, you have this load-heavy flash menu, that only offers a couple of menu points, and its all flashy. Then you have a sepparat menu bar below, and there aren't even any hover-effects, so that the menu is visually not very appealing, nor helpfull to the user (in the sense of feedback, that something will happen, when over that piece of text, indicating an important link).

Besides the above, it looks good, if you look at a screen shot only.

Just my 5 cents....

PS: nearly forgot, I did see one of those XOOPS typical section logo, which you had addapted, by using your own font. You should addapt it to the rest of theme, which is rather dark, suiting the music genre. For example, use in the white area, a matching dark pattern, and change the border colour to brown (using different tones, create a 3D effect, or create a patch-work like feel, as you have with the other border).

a) I'm also not a big fan of the 'animal-theme'

b) I do believe this should be discussed openly, yes it takes more time, yes there is a lot of repetition, but either this is open or closed! As well as there is always someting new in every thread.

If you start having the decisions and discussion going on behind closed doors, rumours start, the project is no longer a 'community effort', which takes away the XOOPSfeeling, the idea of XOOPStopia, where we all work together and contribute according to our skills. Yes there is trolling, but the way we deal with this as a community, is a sign of our maturity. That's why your criticism is appreciated, which doesn't mean that others have to agree.

c) I like the robot man best, as Japan is world leader regarding robotics, and the 'birthplace' of XOOPS. Further it is rather neutral. Also it allows for easy integration into logo.

d) The artwork provided by Herves friend is great, but I'm not convinced, that it would be a suitable concept to addapt for XOOPS. XOOPS has (currently) a toy-like-feeling as it is, and I believe we want to move a little away from this

e) There is a difference between 'logo' and 'mascot'. I believe XOOPS the name is suficient for a logo, and that we don't have to step into the shoes of others, and follow this hype of 'identity via abstract symbol'. You mentioned Germany, don't you feel reminded of other symbols, when the abstract use of geometry takes over? I do!

The addition of a mascot though, should be helpfull for recognition purposes. XOOPS is an effort of XOOPStopia, yes, we unite the young and the old, the incompetent and the professional. You can use XOOPS if you know nothing about web development, or you can use it at a professional level.

We are different, so why follow all the others. I know people will hate me for saying this, but Mambo has one of these non-expressional logos, let's not follow them in that direction!

My 5 cents...
