Many XOOPS themes seem to lack visual refinement, and many look (IMHO) a bit 1990s.

I was looking at this WP theme

http://wp-themes.der-prinz.com/wyntonmagazine/

and more on this site and wondered whether it was possible to do something similar for XOOPS that worked with news module and others?

thanks for your comment ghia, just wondered if anyone had ever heard of it as it was not something I had heard of and wondered if it was a derivative of some other cms strand

if a user has lost their password and inputs their email address instead of sending a password, on clicking on "send password" it just links to a page of gobbedygook code, why is this?

yes but wordpress is on version 2.65 (stable), I am not sure how it is changed but Xpress was I understand only an alteration of about 10 files in wordpress. So maybe Wordpress changed and the alerations weren't as easy.

I would perhaps use Lifetype but again it is not up to date

I too liked WeBLog as I personally I think any blog module needs to be simple and only have a few extras.....

•ability to grade posts
•tagging
•image integration
•a related posts feature

you can add these using old wordpress plugins to xpress, my problem with xpress is that it duplicates the side blocks by putting in the wordpress side bar and makes everything cluttered.

I too admire the coders, I can hack a little but no to that extent, my suspicion is that they start young or as a hobby and find it takes over their life, so they must either learn to make money from it (like instant-zero) or give it up when their skills get them a well paid job. There is also an element of this whole internet and coding deal that is incompatible with having a relationship unless it is with someone who also loves computing.

yes, as a plain blogging tool, news is better than Xpress (wordpress 2.05) latest wordpress is good because of the plugins that extend its capabilities. also its ability to stop spam in trackback comment etc. through Akismet

The reality is xpress is not a good module, its more of a make do, there are many probelms to pick one like Wordpress it is slow.
Many years before I used WeBlog but this had trackback spam problems, then I moved to xpress then wordpress proper, now my blog uses the blogger API through a plugin for the template website software called RapidWeaver. I would like to be able to use XOOPS mainly because i could intergrate Galleries and Blog and more. I have been making sites for others in XOOPS and for my macmend.com site but cannot see a way to make my blog to XOOP at the moment
I will probabaly go back to Wordpress

ok that gets the aggregator to read it but how the blog mod reads it I dont know. Besdies news and popupnblog are any of these blog modules still being supported.

nobunobu no longer does
Xpress is only on version 2.05 whilst wordpress is on 2.25
WeBLog has a number of discssions but no further development

Thanks for your reply, I dont think I was clear enough, I am looking for a blogging module that imports data from anther blog that has exported in XML or atom RSS.

I am not sure how the modules you suggest would help me with this?

News module actually makes a very good blog and along with my other question in modules I am looking at which modules can import xml or atom data from another blog.

News module can at present export, and import would be a good feature. It is as I have written before very easy to convert from XOOPS to other formats as they often have plenty of conversion scripts. e.g PHPBB smf forums, Wordpress, Joomla and drupal

We do ourselves no favours when we do not promote conversion to XOOPS by including conversion in forums or news/blogging modules.
