as a quick fix to get it looking right
in your css files look for :-

#xo-canvas {
margin: 0 auto;
width: 1000px;
}

and change it to 1200px

Top bar menu links.
as i understand it the correct way is via the templates in the control panel.

click on the theme and you get the drop down where you will find navbar html.
this is the file you will need to change.

Note... in system preferences you will need to ensure
Check templates for modifications ? is set to yes

don't quite follow you here:- "little message icons"

Are you referring to the "Register" link that drops down a line, and when you go to fmcontent the "password box" drops as well?.
If yes, then its nothing to do with Fmcontent.... but a lot to do with the "globalnav"

You will need to do a quick bit of fiddling with xdgallery.. style css

#xo-globalnav
min height needs changing.. 85px should do it for a quick fix.

if you mean just switch from one theme to another then you need the theme switcher block turned on. (its in "system") and basically for you use only

if you mean you want a differnt theme for different parts of your site then you need the rather excellent "defacer" module

http://xoops.svn.sourceforge.net/viewvc/xoops/XoopsModules/defacer/

Someone else might know something different

Just done an upgrade from 2.5.4. to 2.5.5
Still sratching the surface as yet.

So far the only thing i have come up with is in:
1-Publisher
2-Profile/userinfo
I get
'Database::getInstance();' is deprecated since XOOPS 2.5.4please use 'XoopsDatabaseFactory::getDatabaseConnection();' instead.

how do i get rid of that please?

if i read this right, i am thinking you have added a direct link to a tab heading. so when you click on it, it sends you to the form page.
(that certainly seems to be the case on your page)

I dont quite understand the bit about other forms showning tab.

anyway...

I started experimenting with formulise a few months ago. The doctors now say i am ok again and have released me from the mental institution. So i have been experimenting again. one thing that you can do is stick a bit of given code in a php block to embed it in the tab.

Now i dont understand or know about this Perfectly horrible Programming language. But the code that i use goes something like this

include_once "/home/xxxxxx/public_html/xxxxxxx.co.uk/mainfile.php";
$formulize_screen_id 1;
include
"/home/xxxxxx/public_html/xxxxxxx.co.uk/modules/formulize/index.php";

I have tried to bugger around with it to see if i could get it to display a liase form... but probally due to total ignorance i have failed miserably. You might fair better if my ramblings are pointing the the right direction.

try fmcontent then. Its simplest of these modules, yet one of the best. it depends on what you want to achieve. for my needs it hits the spot.

if you are using xoops 2.5.x none of these work very well at all. they were designed for older versions of xoops.
try "news" "fmcontent" and "publisher. "

I feel your pain.
the slidey out thing comes with that particular theme. You will soon find there are a lot of themes with a horizontal menu in various forms, and you will soon find that you need to go to that theme and make a few adjustments to the xotpl/globalnav html file (found in the template section of admin). you will soon see where to make the changes to make it relevant to the modules that you have installed.

Like me , it seems you have used the latest version of xoops and struggling to find modules that work. Im still experimenting, but the content modules you mention you will have fun with (not).

Personally i use "publisher" and "fmcontent" but lots use "news" It took me a while to find out which versions of these actualy work, and some you wont find here, you have to go and do a bit of exploring and playing.
